How you treat your body matters

Let’s cut to the chase, every woman has body image issues.

How can we not? We are constantly bombarded with images that have been filtered and transformed to make even the most beautiful women look even better. Unfortunately, comparison and judgement is a part of human nature. The less of it that you deal with on a daily basis, the better, but it will never be completely obsolete from our lives.

Unrealistic expectations are a happiness thief.

It’s also important to remember that everyone’s body is different. Some women are born with a thin frame, others are more susceptible to muscle gain, and some have curves that could make a seaman dizzy. All are beautiful and uniquely wonderful. Be kind to your body because it’s the only thing in this world that you own outright.

The New Year just passed, so I’m sure many people have made resolutions to diet and exercise to lose weight or get a six pack. This thinking is backwards. Getting healthy should not be about the condition of your appearance but the condition of your wellness.

Of course looking your best is something that we all strive for, myself included. But unfortunately this motive often leads to unhealthy habits that can do long term damage to the temple that is your body. Your intention behind making the changes needs to be from the right place. It will give you a brighter outlook on the process.

Eating well and breaking a sweat is about FEELING your best.

It’s about getting healthy, not skinny.

As I said earlier, all of our bodies are different. Some people have trouble digesting meat or dairy, but an athlete might need these foods to compensate for an active lifestyle. The biggest thing is listening to your body. Try out multiple diets and note which one makes you feel your best. Be in tuned with your body. This will take time but learning about your body will help you appreciate it more.

Whatever your preference, eat your veggies and drink LOTS of water. When it comes to produce, color is power baby. Beets, blueberries, kale, red cabbage are all loaded with the good stuff that will help your body to function as it’s should.

Remember, this health thing is a lifestyle. The occasional treat is critical to sanity of course. Commit to intentional choices each day and love the process of bettering yourself.
